linux-on-esp32 overview

NOMMU Linux 6.11 with Wi-Fi and I2C on the ESP32-S3. Repo ↗

What it is

A research-grade port running a 6.11 NOMMU kernel on Xtensa with a Buildroot userland: wpa_supplicant Wi-Fi, full I2C utilities, vi, awk, sed, wget, ping, and a JFFS2 partition so configs survive reboots.

Flash it

Skip compiling and take the release binaries: bootloader, partition table, network adapter, kernel image, CramFS rootfs, and the etc overlay.

Flash them with esptool over USB, then talk to the board over serial and Wi-Fi.

Note: Research experiment, not a daily driver. Expect microcontroller-grade speed and rough edges.

pip install esptool
